Rather than our usual monthly dinner meeting at a local Charlotte-area restaurant, we will instead be having our October meeting at our chapter’s hangar at Gastonia Municipal Airport, where Eddie Shields, the FAA’s FAASTeam Program Manager for the Charlotte, NC region, will be hosting a hands-on demonstration of Owner-Allowed Maintenance on Certificated Aircraft.
EAA 309 members Kevin Cromie and Sam Stewart will be making their very nice Piper Cherokee available at our hangar for Eddie to do a hands-on demonstration on their airplane of various owner-allowed maintenance tasks. Among the several owner-allowed maintenance tasks allowed according to 14 CFR Part 43 “Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, Rebuilding and Alteration” include:
Gear shock struts
Hoses (except hydraulic lines)
Lubricate various components
Safety belts and seat parts
Fuel and oil screens and filters
Landing and position lights
Note: we will be ordering pizzas for dinner during this meeting. Hope to see you there (6:30pm, Monday 10.15.18 at the Gastonia Airport Chapter 309 hangar) for what will surely be an informative demonstration for our numerous chapter members who have their own certificated aircraft, via individual ownership, partnerships or club ownership.
President, EAA Chapter 309
